James A. Lynn
James Albert Lynn, 76, of Aurora, Illinois died peacefully on Saturday, January 30, 2010. He was born on March 6, 1933 in Elmhurst, Illinois to William Lynn and Lucretia Johnson.
Surviving Jim is his beloved wife of 44 years, Jane Peters Lynn; their children Christine (Mike) Poppen of Aurora and Andrew of Chicago; and their grandchildren Morgan and Jordyn Poppen.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents and his sisters, Joanne Chapman and Annabelle Ludwig.
Jim attended Purdue University to pursue a degree in Engineering. While attending Purdue, he enlisted in the United States Army. Jim served in the Army as an instructor at the Army Security Agency School and is a veteran of the Korean Conflict. Upon his return, he attended Aurora College and Waubonsee College where he received his degree.
Jim spent his life as a salesman for Valley Supply and Tool Company, New England Mutual Life Insurance Company, Richards-Wilcox Manufacturing Company, and the Aurora Metal Company. He was a dedicated member of the Aurora Jaycees and the Aurora Country Club where he loved spending time with his good friends on the golf course. During retirement, he enjoyed working for the Batavia office of Hipp Temporary and as a starter and marshal at Orchard Valley Golf Course. He was also his granddaughters’ favorite babysitter.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday, February 2, 2010 from 3:00 – 7:00 p.m. at The Healy Chapel, 332 W. Downer Pl., Aurora, IL 60506. A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
Because education and sports, particularly basketball and baseball, were such an important part of Jim’s life, contributions in his memory can be made to the Jim Lynn Memorial Fund, c/o West Aurora High School-Main Office, 1201 West New York Street, Aurora, IL 60506.
