Stanley “Gibby” A. Monokoski, 63 of Geneva, passed away Wednesday April 9, 2014 at Journey Care Hospice. He was born October 11, 1950 in Chicago the son of the late Stanley and Helene (Washko) Monokoski.

Gibby graduated from Northern Illinois School of Music with his BA and MA in Music and engaged in PhD studies at Northwestern University. He was a Professor of Music/Instrumental at Waubonsee where he taught Music Theory, Composition, Music Literature and Jazz piano, while coordinating the music performance program for over 39 years. Among his honors, he was awarded as the Teacher of the Year in 1987 among all Illinois community colleges. He also was past president of the Fox Valley Symphony until it closed in 2001; he also served on the board of director for Fox Valley Arts Hall of Fame. In addition he received the Fox Valley Orchestra’s first ever Champion of the Arts award for his dedication to the arts and education in the Fox Valley. He was well loved by his students and colleagues.

Gibby is survived by his loving wife, Susan Rogaliner of Geneva; his step-daughter, Amy Rogaliner of Chicago; his sisters, Dolores (Jack) Nelson of Palos Park, Il, Carole Drust of Marietta, GA, Beverly (Edwin) Lezaj of Flowery Branch, GA and Linda (Michael) Ruberto of Clearwater, FL; his many nieces and nephews and friends.

Visitation will be held Sunday 1-5 p.m. April 13, 2014 at The Healy Chapel, 370 Division Dr., Sugar Grove, IL. Funeral services will be held at 5 p.m. following the visitation at the funeral home. Interment will be private.
